Places in Yorkshire I love to visit with my nephews...

Since becoming an Auntie I have really appreciated being self-employed as it means I get to spend lots of time with my Nephews, along with my Sister and Mum. We are always off on days out and so I thought I would share some of our favourites! First up has to be YORKSHIRE WILDLIFE PARK! (Doncaster) We first went when Dougie was a teeny tot. Although he was a little too young to appreciate his surroundings fully, we all LOVED it! We soon decided to get an annual pass to allow us to go whenever we liked and Dougie had free entry until he turned 3!
POSITIVES OF YWP...
  • The Animals... obviously!
  • Lots of walking and fresh air
  • Huge indoor play area (not just for the children!) with an under 5's section!
  • You can take your own lunch
  • The very best hot chocolates that you can enjoy whilst watching the giraffes!
NEGATIVES OF YWP...
  • Entry fees mean you can't go too often unless you do get an annual pass
  • Dougie now ONLY wants to go in the play area and has lost interest in animals!
  • Busy in peak season - we always tried to stick to school days in term time
Sheffield Children's Days out - Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Next up is somewhere we go quite often and lots of my clients will know this is a favourite place of mine for children's outdoor photoshoots too! GRAVES PARK is local to us (Norton, Sheffield) and somewhere I can remember visiting as a child myself!

Graves Park has many options and before Dougie arrived we regularly  visited with our Labradors and walked through the woods. We never park in the main car park (around £1 per hour) as we like a little walk first.

Dougie's favourite thing about Graves Park is the new
addition of the Go Karts which are £1 a go - I usually get the backseat driver role!
As mentioned previously Dougie isn't hugely bothered by the animals but there are plenty to see especially for a Free Entry Farm! You can buy food for some of them too.

POSITIVES OF GRAVES...
  • Free entry and you don't NEED to spend a penny (difficult with a threenager!)
  • Lovely cafe - reasonably priced and the option to pay by card
NEGATIVES OF GRAVES...
  • Gets really busy in the summertime and you may have to find a different car park
  • Lots of dogs running around so watch your sandwiches!

When we fancy some really good coffee and grub we head to FORGE DAM CAFE and have a little walk through the woods, throw rocks into the river shouting 'PLONK' and then head to the park. I always remember the slide here from being a little girl! We have lunch in the cafe - they serve the BEST sausage rolls. We usually buy some duck food here too!

POSITIVES OF FORGE DAM...
  • Sausage rolls and proper coffee!
  • Option to go on a long walk
NEGATIVES OF FORGE DAM...
  • Walking back to the car after all the food!
  • The ducks are those greedy kind

I love that you can take your own lunch when visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
